Teddies are one of the most popular lingerie designs, in design the teddy is similar to a corset. Teddies are a one piece garment, that generally starts out bustier, and extends down between the legs as a thong, and ends up fastening to the back of the bodice.

By definition a teddy is a piece of underwear that combimes both a camisole and panty in one piece. Teddies, are typically looser, and more sheer, and also can be designed to slip off from the shoulders, rather than regular underwear that open at the crotch. The teddy is generally worn to seduce, rather than for the purpose of practical clothing.

There are several types of teddies including the traditional teddy, bareback teddy, fashion top teddy, teddiette, sleep teddy, and the body briefer teddy.

The traditional teddy is loose-fitting and designed for visual appeal and to show the figure. Traditional teddies are often used with sheer or partially sheer material.

A teddy with an open back is the bareback teddy, and it typically includes one or more straps to help support the bustline. Bareback teddies can be worn without a bra, and give the appearance of a bare back.

A teddy that combines a thong, bra and fashionable top, are called fashion top teddies. Coming in a wide variety of styles fashion top teddies can be worn as fancy undergarments or as an outer garment without a top over them.

A Teddiette is a teddy with detachable garters.

A loose-fitting teddy designed as sleepwear, sleep teddies tend to use more simple styles than teddies designed for visual appeal.

A teddy that is fitted for smoothing and shaping of the wearer's figure is a body briefer teddy. Typically coming in a variety of control levels, achieved by using different materials of thickness, that help in the body areas that they are designed to control.
