Stockings

Stockings are close-fitting elastic garments that cover the foot and the lower part of the leg. The popularity of stockings goes up and down with fashion. Stockings are made of knitted wool, silk, cotton, or nylon.

Pantyhose (like stokcings) are see thru, close fitting and covers the body from the waist to the feet, generally pantyhose and stockings are worn by women. The term pantyhose originated in the United States in reference to the combination of "panties" with hosiery (stockings as well). The the UK pantyhose are called tights.

Stockings are supported in one of three ways. The most common is a garter belt which goes around the waist and drops extensions that are clipped to the tops of the stockings. The second is called stay-up technology, the inside of the top of the stockings has added it to an elastic band that resists slipping down the thigh. The least common support method is circular elastic garters that are slipped up over the top of the stocking and intend to hold the stocking by clamping it to the leg.
