Lingerie is another term for women's fashion undergarments. Many people also refer to lingerie, as Lingerie Clothing. The term itself comes derives from a French word 'lin' for linen. When speaking French the term 'lin' applies to male and female undergarments, while in English it is applied only to women's undergarments that are designed specifically to be visually arousing, appealing, or erotic. Lingerie is typically made from materials such as nylon, polyester, satin, lace, and silk.

Through the first half of the 20th century women selected underwear (or panties) for three major purposes; to alter thier shape (corsets, girdles, bras), for hygiene, or for modesty. Now there is a fourth reason, visually appealing (Lingerie). This is probably the biggest factor in determining what underwear to select.

Lingerie Materials: One of the largest advancements in lingerie came around the 1930's when Dublop Rubber invented Lastex. Lastex is an elastic fiber that can be interwoven with fabric and could be used to make lingerie fashions, As the 20th centruy progressed underwear became smaller and more fitting to a womens form partially because of Lastex. In the 1960's lingerie manufacturers produced controversial underwear and began to glamourise lingerie and the idea of underwear having sexual appeal.

Everyone was trying to create the newest most different piece of lingerie, the market began to be flooded with all kinds of innovations to help women look more sexy. Howard Hughes created a new bra with a special wire-reinforced design. By 1980 wire-reinforced bras had become the number-one seller, and they are still popular today. Many people think that plus size lingerie is difficult to find, but in reality plus size lingerie is very popular. One of the most popular colors of lingerie is black lingerie. Black lingerie make the womens form look great, it brings out curves, and the color of the womens eyes. A lot of women look for matching lingerie, which is sometimes difficult to find.
